Police awaiting blood test results in East 45th accident that killed pedestrian

Wichita police are awaiting toxicology results before presenting evidence about a traffic accident that killed a pedestrian last month.

Harold Walker, 71, was walking in the 2100 block of East 45th Street North at about 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 18 when he was struck by a car, police have said. Walker was taken to Wesley Medical Center, where he died on Dec. 30.

The 29-year-old woman continued driving home after the collision, police have said. She told her husband she hit something but wasn’t sure what it may have been. He retraced her route and found Walker lying on the side of the road.

The woman said she was distracted by something in the car and did not see what she struck.

Funeral services for Walker will be held Saturday at Tabernacle Bible Church. Walker’s death raised the number of people killed in Wichita traffic accidents to 28 in 2014.
