Wichita Komen Cards for the Cure event canceled
Susan G. Komen of Kansas called off its annual Cards for the Cure fundraising event set for Jan. 30.
Jeremy Mock, business development and event manager for Komen Kansas, said he was notified about the cancellation late Wednesday morning.
“It’s just a bummer,” he said.
Mock said he was told by the event’s organizer, Spike Anderson, that the city told him the event violated city law regarding gambling. Anderson could not be reached for comment.
Mock said event organizers received approval from city and state officials when Cards for the Cure first started six years ago.
He said he felt bad for sponsors that spent money toward the event and for grant applications that will no longer receive money that would have been raised during the event.
“It’s just a real bum deal,” Mock said.
