The Kansas Turnpike is raising toll rates for cash-paying customers effective May 1.

Cash-paying drivers will see rates climb 10 percent, according to a statement issued by the Kansas Turnpike Authority. Drivers who pay tolls electronically will receive a 20 percent discount on the cash toll rate for vehicles with up to four axles, while vehicles with five or more axles will receive a 10 percent discount.

The tolls are used to maintain and upgrade the 236 miles of the turnpike. A long-term needs study just released identifies 44 projects with an estimated investment worth $1.2 billion.
