Four people were injured, two critically, after a three-vehicle collision at Pawnee and Oliver on Tuesday evening, according to police.
Wichita police Lt. Ronald Hunt said that shortly before 7 p.m., a Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputy saw a man wanted by authorities getting into a car.
The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect, along with another man inside the car, took off.
The deputy “immediately discontinued (the) pursuit of the vehicle around Lincoln and Oliver,” Hunt said.
About two minutes later, the collision at Pawnee and Oliver was reported.
The two men inside the car the deputy attempted to stop, both in their 20s, were taken to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition, Hunt said.
The drivers of the other two cars involved in the collision, both the only occupants of their respective vehicles, were taken to the same hospital in serious condition, according to a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher.
Hunt said officers are interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances of the crash.
