Radio show to discourage holiday drinking and driving

This year’s annual, local radio show discouraging holiday drinking and driving will be broadcast twice Wednesday — during the morning rush and then over lunch.

The “New Year’s Eve Don’t Drink and Drive Show” will air from 6 a.m. to 9 a .m. on KEYN 103.7 FM and again from noon to 2 p.m. on KICT 95.1. During the shows, deputies from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will lead retired law enforcement officers through standardized field sobriety tests given roadside when a motorist is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The goal of the show is to discourage listeners from drinking and driving during the holiday and to show the rate at which alcohol drinkers can reach a blood alcohol level of .08, the legal limit for driving in Kansas. In past years, the show was aired only in the morning.

The show is organized by Danny Saville, a Wichita defense attorney and former DUI prosecutor. It’s in its 20th year.
