Wichita man dies in Chautauqua County crash

A 60-year-old Wichita man was killed Monday afternoon when his semitrailer crashed in Chautauqua County, authorities said.

Juan Carlos Garcia was driving west on U.S. 166 shortly before 4 p.m. Monday when his semi drifted left of center more than six miles west of K-99, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The semi continued into the south ditch, where it struck a rock embankment.

The semi rolled onto the driver’s side of the cab and caught fire, according to the highway patrol. Garcia was taken to the Sedan City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It’s not clear why the semi drifted into the ditch, according to the highway patrol.
