A Natoma teen was killed Friday when the car he was riding in was hit by a semi-tractor truck about two miles south of Plainville in Rooks County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said Elijah James Holmes, 18, died after he was thrown from the 1997 Ford Crown Victoria around 9:30 p.m. along Highway 183. The car slid on a patch of ice, causing the 17-year-old boy driving to lose control and cross the highway into oncoming traffic, the highway patrol said in a crash report.
There, it was struck by the semi, the report said.
The 17-year-old was taken to Rooks County Health Center with injuries. He lives in Waldo, the crash report said.
The 62-year-old semi driver, a Russell man, was taken to the hospital but had no injuries, according to the crash report.
