Man killed in crash on I-135 ramp near Lincoln on Sunday night
A 41-year-old Wichita man was killed Sunday night when his car crashed as he was trying to merge onto I-135, authorities said.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Shane Smith lost control of his 2001 Ford Focus as he was entering the ramp from Lincoln to southbound I-135 at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The car struck a curb and partially overturned, killing Smith at the scene.
Smith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the highway patrol report. Wichita police officers alerted the highway patrol to the crash, which was initially classified as a non-injury accident, a dispatcher for the highway patrol said.
