Vehicle crosses center median, triggers collision on I-235 near Central
Four people were injured — none seriously — in a three-vehicle collision on I-235 in west Wichita on Monday morning, authorities said.
The collision was reported at 8:23 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-235 south of the Central exit, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. A vehicle in the southbound lanes crossed the center median into northbound traffic, triggering the accident.
Three people refused transport to a hospital at the scene, the dispatcher said, but a fourth person was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis. Northbound lanes of I-235 south of Central were closed for more than half an hour after the collision, but one lane reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
The driver of the southbound vehicle may have suffered a medical episode of some sort before crossing the center median, the dispatcher said.
