Derby police offering classes for those interested in law enforcement
The Derby Police Department is seeking applicants for its Citizen Police Academy this spring.
The academy is a free 12-week program open to people 18 or older who either live in Derby, work in Derby or own a business in Derby.
During classes, which are held one night per week, police officers educate citizens on what it’s like to be a Derby police officer. That includes ride-alongs.
According to a news release from the department, Derby police officer salaries start at $37,960 annually, “plus generous benefits.”
The Citizen Police Academy will run from Feb. 16 to May 3.
Classes are 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Police and Courts Building, 229 N. Baltimore.
Applications may be picked up at the Derby Police Department, 229 N. Baltimore.
