Jim Mason, a longtime city employee, has been named the new director of the Great Plains Nature Center. He took over effective Friday, the city said.
An author of two local history books, Mason has worked for Wichita’s Park and Recreation Department since 1978 and as a naturalist for the Wichita Wild program since 1988.
Mason replaces Lorrie Beck who retired after two years in the position.
Great Plains Nature Center, 6232 E. 29th St., is a partnership between city, state and federal wildlife services. It provides programs, tours and information about natural resources, especially wildlife and plant species in the Great Plains region.
