Governor’s council recognizes fitness work at Obesity Summit
The state recognized five individuals and organizations at the annual Obesity Summit this week for fitness-related work around Kansas.
The purpose of the Obesity Summit is to provide strategies to encourage physical activity, access to healthy foods and to set health action steps.
The Governor’s Council on Fitness chooses the award winners, which are presented at the summit.
Mim McKenzie, vice president of Community Development of Greater Wichita YMCA, received the individual Health Champion award. She was the primary person behind the formation of the Health & Wellness Coalition of Wichita, which advocates for programs and policy changes to promote healthy lifestyles.
The other four winners and honorable mentions are: Live Well Crawford County received the Organizational Health Champion award; Paula Clayton received the Outstanding Service Award; Wendy Burton, a teacher and coach in Winfield, received the Individual Honorable Mention; and the City of Ottawa received the Organizational Honorable Mention.
