Pickup crashes into Arkansas River during morning commute
A man was hospitalized Wednesday after crashing his pickup into the Arkansas River downtown during the morning commute, authorities said.
The crash was reported at about 7 a.m. at Taft and McLean Boulevard, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. The driver, who is in his 20s, exited eastbound Kellogg onto Taft and did not turn when the street ended at McLean Boulevard.
The pickup went over the embankment next to the Arkansas River and nosed into the water, but was not submerged, the dispatcher said. It took emergency responders awhile to extricate the driver from his pickup.
He was transported to Via Christi Hospital for treatment of injuries that are not life-threatening.
