Funeral for Sharon Springs football player set for Tuesday
Funeral services for Luke Schemm, a high school football player from Sharon Springs who died Wednesday, will be held Tuesday.
The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs, according to a family member’s Facebook page. The public is invited.
Schemm, 17, collapsed during a playoff game Tuesday night against Otis-Bison. He was airlifted to a suburban Denver hospital. He was declared brain dead and removed from life support Wednesday afternoon.
A witness said Schemm collapsed on the sideline after scoring a touchdown and a two-point conversion for Wallace County. His father, David, said on Facebook that his son “suffered trauma to the brain, causing it to swell (and) shut off blood flow to the brain.”
To help the family with funeral and medical expenses, the Wallace County school district has organized a T-shirt fundraiser. T-shirts that include the saying “Wildcats 4 Luke” are $20. They are available in children’s and adult sizes.
To order a shirt, contact Rachel Schemm at rachelschemm@yahoo.com.
