Police are still sorting out the details of a fight that left one man with a head injury and another stabbed several times in downtown Wichita on Wednesday night.

Officers were sent to the 800 block of South Topeka at about 11 p.m. Wednesday after a man walked up to an off-duty officer providing security at the QuikTrip at 750 S. Broadway and reported he had been stabbed, authorities said.

The two men, 35 and 36, got into an argument that escalated until the older man hit the other man on the head with a metal pipe, knocking him down, Lt. James Espinoza said. As the fight continued, the younger man stabbed the older one several times with a knife.

The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and admitted.

Investigators are looking for witnesses who can clarify the chain of events, Espinoza said.
