Police: Search continues for man who robbed two banks Tuesday
Authorities are still searching for a man who robbed two Fidelity Bank branches little more than an hour apart in south Wichita on Tuesday.
A man and woman who were stopped at Pawnee and Washington and taken into custody shortly after the second robbery were released after being questioned, Lt. James Espinoza said. Evidence linking them to the second bank robbery – at 3101 S. Seneca at 12:44 p.m. Tuesday – was found inside their vehicle.
But the pair said they found the evidence and picked it up, Espinoza said, and an investigation corroborated their alibi. Espinoza would not say what the evidence was or how the pair’s explanation was confirmed.
The first robbery occurred at the Fidelity branch at 3525 E. Harry at 11:35 a.m., authorities have said. The suspect description and robbery method were similar, leaving investigators to think the same person committed both crimes, Espinoza said.
Authorities are looking for a black male in his mid-20s who is about 6 feet tall and 190 pounds. He had dreadlocks and was wearing a dark blue hooded Denver Broncos sweatshirt, with a blue bandanna over his face. He was carrying a black book bag.
