Police: Crash on Hillside kills man, 21
Police say speed may have played a role in a crash that killed a 21-year-old man early Saturday morning.
Delorean Hadley was driving south on Hillside when his maroon Chevy Monte Carlo left the street and crashed into a utility pole at Zimmerly at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Wichita police Capt. Doug Nolte said Monday. Hadley was ejected from the Monte Carlo and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers knocked on several doors in the area as they tried to piece together what happened, Nolte said. Several residents said they heard the crash but none of them actually saw it.
Any witnesses to the crash are being asked to call 911 or the investigations section at 316-268-4646.
Based on the force of impact on the utility pole, Nolte said, “it appears speed might have played a factor” in the crash.
The crash did not knock out electricity in the area, he said. This is the 25th fatality of the year in 23 crashes, officials said. That compares with 24 fatalities in 18 crashes over the same time period in 2014.
