Police seek man, 19, and girl, 13, after Sunday shooting injures 18-year-old
A verbal argument escalated to gunfire Sunday morning in southeast Wichita, sending one man to the hospital with a gunshot wound and police searching for the suspect and a 13-year-old girl.
Sgt. Brian Sigman said the argument and shooting occurred at about 1 a.m. in the 800 block of South Belmont. That’s near Lincoln and Oliver.
Sigman said an argument between an 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old man escalated, and the 18-year-old man was shot in the right arm. He was taken by a private vehicle to Via Christi St. Joseph, and was later transported by EMS to Via Christi St. Francis.
Sigman said he didn’t know the condition of the 18-year-old man.
“His code score was not bad so I’m assuming it’s not life threatening,” he said.
Several witnesses identified the 19-year-old man as the shooter, who had left before police arrived, Sigman said.
Police are searching for the 19-year-old as well as a 13-year-old girl he took with him.
“Don’t know what the relationship is there,” Sigman said. “They also have an attempt to locate out on her.”
“It’s not believed she is in any type of danger, but they would like to at least find her,” he added.
