Monday is the deadline to make donations for purchasing wreaths that will be placed Dec. 13 on graves at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield.

The local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is one of several groups raising funds for the effort, which is part of Wreaths Across America’s annual national project.

The wreaths are $15 each.

As of earlier this week, the local groups had sponsors for about 350 wreaths, organizers said. They need 583 more for the 933 graves at the Winfield cemetery for the 808 veterans and 125 spouses.

To make a donation for purchasing wreaths, go to wreathsacrossamerica.org. For more information, contact Chet Sweet at 620-229-2287 at the Winfield cemetery or e-mail csweet@kcva.org.

Any donations that come in after Monday’s deadline will be applied to purchasing wreaths for next year, said Joe Warne of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies on a specified Saturday each December at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., as well as at veterans cemeteries in all 50 states.
