Meals on Wheels to resume deliveries after fire

Meals on Wheels is scheduled to start deliveries again Tuesday.

A kitchen fire on Saturday temporarily shut down the delivery of meals Sunday and Monday.

On Tuesday, volunteer drivers are asked to report for their normally scheduled route delivers. Frozen meals will be delivered on Tuesday and Wednesday. Frozen holiday meals have already been delivered to recipients of Meals on Wheels, according to a news release issued Monday by Chris Heiman, development director for Meals on Wheels.

In the meantime, Senior Services Inc. of Wichita is visiting several locations this week searching for potential sites to place a temporary Meals On Wheels kitchen.

Senior Services, which administers Meals on Wheels, does not have phone service at its 200 S. Walnut location. The phone service for other programs, including Roving Pantry, Senior Employment, In-Home Respite Care, Senior Mentor and Downtown Senior Center, also has been affected by the fire. If people need to contact any of those services, they can call Linwood Senior Center at 316-263-3703.
