Semi slams into Butler County sheriff deputy’s car near Leon

A Butler County sheriff’s deputy escaped serious injury Monday morning when his patrol car was struck by a semi near Leon, authorities said.

The deputy was assisting a stalled motorist shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday at U.S. 400 and Sunflower Road when the westbound semi hit his patrol car, a Butler County emergency dispatcher said. The driver of the semi was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment of non-critical injuries, while the deputy was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is working the collision, which closed westbound U.S. 400 down to one lane.
