Lynne Tinker believes in giving back to her community.

“I love living here in Wichita; I could never go anywhere else and live,” said Tinker, who has volunteered for various Wichita organizations for nearly half a century. “This is home.”

Among some of her favorite organizations are the Wichita-Sedgwick County Museum, the Junior League of Wichita, the Kansas Humane Society and Designing Women at the Wichita Center for the Arts.

“I’m very fortunate; when I got married and came here, I didn’t have to work,” said Tinker, 71. “My job became being a volunteer.”

Tinker said she volunteers at least three hours a week; some weeks she puts in more time.

Her joy, she said, is in seeing people.

“All the people in these organizations work so hard,” she said. “This is a way I can give back.

“Things cannot just get done. You can’t hire enough people to get it all done. That’s why volunteers are so important.”
