The author of a recent book chronicling his friendship with Nelson Mandela is scheduled to speak at Wichita State University on Dec. 8.

“A Conversation With Christo Brand” starts at 7 p.m. in Lowe Auditorium at Hughes Metropolitan Complex, 5015 E. 29th St. North.

Brand is the author of “Mandela, My Prisoner, My Friend,” which tells the story of his unlikely friendship with Mandela, former president of South Africa and Nobel Laureate. The men met at Robben Island, where Mandela was a political prisoner. Brand was a prison guard.
