Driver shoots himself in the leg after gun slides from under seat
A 23-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg Friday when he was reaching to retrieve a gun in his car, Wichita police said.
At about 11:15 a.m., the man walked into the former Riverside Hospital near Central and Meridian with a gunshot wound to his leg, said Wichita police Sgt. John Hoofer.
“It was determined that he had accidentally shot himself with a .38-caliber revolver” that was in his vehicle, Hoofer said.
“He was driving and had to brake hard. The gun slid out from underneath the seat, and when he reached down to pick it up, the gun went off,” he said.
“What can I say: Firearms are a dangerous weapon,” Hoofer said. “Driving and loaded firearms do not mix.”
