One person dies in single-car crash in Mulvane following chase

One person died in a single-car crash early Saturday morning in Mulvane as he was attempting to flee from law enforcement officers, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol log.

According to the log, Jason A. Minson, 22, of Udall, was driving a 2002 Oldsmobile at “a high rate of speed” while “attempting to elude law enforcement officers with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office” at 2:47 a.m. Saturday. Three other people were in the car, the crash log said.

Near College Avenue and Helbert Street, the car “went over a curb, struck a fence, and then struck a tree,” the log said.

Minson was pronounced dead at 6:15 a.m.

Two occupants of the car – a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old man – were taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis. An 18-year-old man was taken to Wesley Medical Center. All were in fair condition Saturday, according to hospital officials.
