A retired Marine Corps general will be the keynote speaker at the Wichita Crime Commission’s annual dinner next week.

Lt. General Frank Libutti will talk about his time as a deputy police commissioner in New York, where he oversaw more than 300 people working in the counter-terrorism bureau. His 38-year military career included time spent in Vietnam, Japan, Korea, Kenya and Somalia.

Nominated by President George W. Bush to the Department of Homeland Security, he oversaw the department’s intelligence operations as Undersecretary for Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection.

The commission’s 62nd annual dinner will be held Oct. 21 at the DoubleTree Airport Hilton. Among those to be honored will be the law enforcement officer of the year, criminal justice professional of the year, the Willard Garvey Crime Prevention Officer and Citizen Crime Prevention Award.
