Harvey County club begins fundraiser

The Harvey County Sheriff Kurt Ford Explorers Club is conducting a fundraiser to help teenage students within the county seek potential careers in law enforcement.

The fundraiser takes orders for Holiday Evergreen products – which includes evergreen wreaths, sprays, centerpieces and miniature trees. Prices range from $15 to $45. The club is accepting orders until Oct. 30. People interested in donating to the fundraiser may call Melissa Flavin at the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office, 316-284-6960, or visit the sheriff’s office in Newton at 120 E. Seventh St.

All money will go toward providing the Kurt Fort Explorers with training opportunities. The club was created in memory of Kurt Ford, a deputy with the sheriff’s office who died in April 2005 while on a domestic violence call. Ford, 38, was a 1985 graduate of Newton High School and part of the Harvey County Emergency Response Team.
