Fire damages house in south Wichita (+video)

Fire damaged a house next to the Arkansas River south of downtown Wichita on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 11:58 a.m. in the 1700 block of South Exchange, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. That’s south of Harry and east of the river.

Fire crews arrived four minutes later and reported seeing flames. A total of eight fire trucks, engines and squad vehicles responded to the scene, the dispatcher said.

It took crews less than 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported.

The blaze caused an estimated $40,000 in damage, fire officials said, though a cause of the fire has not been released. The house has been unoccupied for the past few years.
