UPDATE: Three from Wichita avoid serious injury after U.S. 50 crash near Peabody

Three people from Wichita escaped serious injury when the car they were in drifted left of center on U.S. 50 and collided with a semi-trailer truck Wednesday afternoon in Harvey County, authorities said.

The collision occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. about two miles west of Peabody, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Victoria Lowry, 25, was driving west on U.S. 50 when her Toyota sedan drifted left of center. An eastbound semi swerved in an attempt to avoid the collision but the car hit the truck, according to a highway patrol report.

Lowry and two children in the car – an 8-year-old boy and a 1-year-old girl – were transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where they were treated and released.
