Concession stand proceeds to benefit boy, 7, struck by semi
All money raised through concession stand sales at Saturday’s Greater Wichita Junior Football League games will be donated toward the medical expenses of a player struck by a semi-trailer truck last weekend.
LaDale Washington Jr., 7, remains in critical condition at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, where he has been since being struck next to Linwood Park in the 1800 block of South Hydraulic just after 2:40 p.m. Saturday.
LaDale plays for the second-grade Bulldogs and had already finished his game, said his father, LaDale Washington Sr. He was playing catch with relatives at halftime of a cousin’s game when the ball rolled over the curb and onto Hydraulic.
The boy reached out into the street to pick up the ball and was struck by the passing semi.
The junior league football games will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club, 2400 N. Opportunity Drive. Donations will also be accepted.
A gofundme page has been set up as well to help defray LaDale Jr.’s medical expenses.
