Pilot identified in fatal Cessna crash in west Wichita (+videos, audio)

The man killed in a Friday plane crash in west Wichita has been identified as Aaron Waters, of Parker, Colo.

Wichita Fire Chief Ron Blackwell gave a briefing to media on Saturday morning, saying that crews were able to remove Waters' body from the Cessna 310 he was piloting.

The investigation has been turned over to federal authorities, who were on scene Saturday morning, Blackwell said.

Over the next 48 to 72 hours, the rest of plane will be removed as the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration investigate.

Blackwell said it is clear Waters died a hero, steering himself away from houses in the area, crashing into a wooded area near Cowskin Creek, near Maple and Maize.

Waters was the president and owner of Aircraft Certification and Systems Engineering, according to his profile on Linkedin. He had formerly worked at Cessna, according to the profile.
