Fire damages apartment building near 21st, Oliver

Fire damaged an apartment building near 21st and Oliver on Wednesday night, authorities said.

The incident was reported at about 9 p.m. at the Village Park at Woodgate Apartments, 5400 E. 21st St., a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. It took fire crews about 20 minutes to put out the fire.

No injuries were reported. The fire resulted from an electrical issue inside the wall of a vacant apartment, fire Capt. Kelly Zane said.

“The affected apartment was under renovation at the time,” Zane said in an e-mail response to questions.

Damage was estimated at about $50,000, Zane said.
