23-year-old dies after being pinned under car on South Broadway salvage yard
A 23-year-old man died Friday after a jack failed, allowing a car to fall on top of him at a salvage yard on South Broadway, Wichita police said.
The man, an employee of Chrisman’s Truck-Auto Salvage, 3852 S. Broadway, was underneath a car trying to remove a starter shortly before 11:30 a.m. when the jack failed, Sgt. Mark Jackson said.
He had been working alone for about 20 minutes before other employees checked on him, Jackson said. They used a front loader to get the car off the man and performed CPR, he added.
The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Jackson said.
His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
