Douglass man, 31, identified as victim of fiery car crash on Oct. 12

A man found dead Oct. 12 after the vehicle he was driving struck a tree and caught fire has been positively identified as John E. Baker, 31, of Douglass, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Oct. 12, the vehicle left the road at 71st South and Greenwich Road, the office said. The vehicle was going south on Greenwich and “failed to negotiate the ‘T’ intersection at 71st Street South,” the office said. The vehicle hit a tree and caught fire, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Lin Dehning said Wednesday that the office had no more information it could give about the crash.
