Honor Flight set to leave Wednesday from Mid-Continent

The final Honor Flight out of Wichita for this year will leave Wednesday, taking 30 veterans to see their war memorials in Washington, D.C.

There will be seven World War II and 23 Korean War veterans on the flight that leaves at 7:15 a.m. from Mid-Continent Airport. It will return at 11:35 a.m. Friday, according to organizers with Kansas Honor Flight.

With this flight, the Hutchinson-based group will have had 12 flights in 2014, taking 332 veterans to the nation’s capital, said Mike VanCampen, president of Kansas Honor Flights.

The group will resume conducting Honor Flights next spring. More than 360 veterans are on the waiting list for a flight, VanCampen said.
