Augusta man killed in pickup accident in Butler County
A 57-year-old Augusta died Monday morning after two pickups collided on U.S 54 in Butler County, causing one pickup to catch fire, authorities said.
Harvey M. Furlow was identified as the driver who was killed in the crash that was reported shortly after 9:30 a.m., according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.
Furlow was driving southbound on Santa Fe Lake Road, which is between Augusta and Andover, when he failed to stop at the light at the U.S. 54 intersection, the report said. His 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was struck on the driver’s side by a Ford F350 that was westbound on the highway, the report said.
The Silverado caught fire upon impact, according to a highway patrol spokesman. Furlow was taken to an Andover hospital where he was declared dead, the report said.
The 64-year-old Chanute man who was driving the Ford was injured. His condition is unknown.
