Symphony Showhouse postponed again
The Symphony Showhouse that was scheduled to take place from Sept. 26 through Oct. 11 has been postponed, the Women’s Association of the Wichita Symphony said Monday.
This is the second time that tours of the house, at 320 N. Belmont, have been put off. Unforeseen structural problems with the house were said to be the hold-up when the showhouse was first postponed in February from its original dates in May. This time, “unforeseen difficulties related to historic preservation of the house” are the cause of the postponement, the showhouse chairman, Lilly-Ann Huffman, said in a statement.
“Discussions are under way for rescheduling the event,” she said.
The house, built in the 1920s to replicate an English manor, is owned by Grant and Janet Rine and is known historically as the R.D.W. Clapp House. Local interior designers decorate and furnish the various rooms of a showhouse, which is then open for tours as a fundraiser for the Women’s Association of the Wichita Symphony.
Designers had not done any work inside the Clapp house, Huffman said.
The last showhouse, at 225 N. Roosevelt, was in 2011.
