DA, consumer agency investigating complaints over general contractor

The Associated Press

Eight people who bought new houses in Sedgwick County within the past year have complained that subcontractors weren’t paid for work on the homes.

The Sedgwick County Consumer Protection Division wants to know whether other home buyers are having similar problems.

The District Attorney’s Office has an open investigation about the complaints.

In a written statement, the Consumer Protection Division said the homeowners paid a general contractor for the materials and work and were assured that all bills had been paid but were later contacted by subcontractors asking for payment.

The subcontracted services included foundation concrete, floor coverings and stone delivery.

Dan Dillon, media coordinator for the DA’s office, would not release the name of the general contracting company and said he could not yet provide the neighborhoods where the homes were built.

The District Attorney’s Office wants anyone with similar experiences to call the Consumer Protection Division at 316-660-3653.
