One dead after car crashes into house near Lincoln, Oliver

A 45-year-old man died when his car veered off Lincoln and crashed into the side of a house early Thursday morning, police said.

The crash was reported at 5:38 a.m. after the sedan crashed into a house on the northeast corner of Lincoln and Bleckley, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said. The car caught fire after crashing into the house, and witnesses say a man pulled the driver out of the burning car before leaving the scene.

“We believe this individual was a Good Samaritan” who was trying to save the driver’s life, Espinoza said.

Anyone with information related to the crash is being asked to call the accident followup unit at 316-268-4682. The name of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of relatives, Espinoza said.

It’s possible the driver may have suffered a medical episode of some kind prior to the crash, he said. One person lived in the house that was struck by the car, but that person was not injured.

Lincoln was closed next to the crash scene for several hours, but had reopened to regular traffic by late morning.
