A Wichita man is recovering after the crash of a light aircraft he was piloting Wednesday in Cowley County.

Melvin James, 76, of Wichita was operating a Maverick 2RT ultralight trike aircraft in Cowley County when it experienced a loss of power during an attempted landing, according to a report by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 11 miles east of Udall. James was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center, the report said.

A spokesman for the hospital said Thursday that James had been discharged. The crash was reported just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The aircraft is manufactured by a company called North Wing out of Washington, the report said.
