Update: K-15 lanes closed by coffee extract spill have reopened
The northbound lanes of K-15 near Venture Lane in Derby have reopened after a semi truck spilled several gallons of coffee extract on the roadway Monday afternoon.
The spill was reported around 12:44 p.m., according to a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor. Initially, it was reported that the semi spilled oil along the roadway, but the communications supervisor said it’s since been reported that the dark liquid in the right lane and shoulder “is some kind of coffee extract.”
Sedgwick County fire and Derby fire responded, and northbound traffic was halted as crews assessed the mess. Around 3 p.m., crews could be seen on live KanDrive video spraying the substance off the roadway with hoses. The northbound lanes have since reopened.
