One person died when a building was blown off its foundation and collapsed north of Wichita near the Sedgwick and Harvey county line early Sunday.

The call came in around 2:15 a.m. Sunday near I-135 and 125th Street North less than an hour after intense storms swept through the area. A lineman working on a power outage call about six miles east of the town of Sedgwick called 911 to report “that a home had been blown off its foundation,” a press release from the county said.

Fire crews arrived and found debris from storm damage. In the wreckage, they found a person who was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

Sedgwick County Emergency Management is working with the National Weather Service to figure out what happened and to determine next steps, the release said.

“We encourage all citizens to take steps to prepare themselves for any type of emergency or disaster,” the release said. “We extend our sympathy to the family for their loss.”
