This new business aims to provide juices, smoothies, fruit bowls in Wichita suburb
The want for more healthy options in Andover led to one resident fulfilling her goal of opening a business in the suburb.
“I have worked in the food industry for over 15 years, and the plan was always to own a business,” Montserrat Alvarado, the owner of the soon-to-open The Fruit Theory, told The Eagle.
That plan is coming to fruition with The Fruit Theory, a shop that will provide pressed juices, smoothies, fruit bowls and more.
“That’s kind of what we’re (going to) start with,” Alvarado said.
The Fruit Theory will be Alvarado’s first business. She said that while living in Andover the last few years she noticed plenty of fast food options, but not a lot of options for people wanting something healthy.
“Why not open something . . . a little bit healthier, something fresh,” Alvarado said. “I haven’t known anybody yet that doesn’t like fruit, so I was like, I think that can be . . . a good thing over here.”
Alvarado said the goal is to partner with local farms to get fresh ingredients for the menu. As time goes by, Alvarado said The Fruit Theory could begin to offer shaved ice flavored with natural syrup.
“You can have your shaved ice with some pieces of fruit in it,” she said.
The store will be at 1519 N Andover Road, just down the road from Point Nine Eatery and Andover Middle School and High School.
Alvarado said the community has been excited for the new business.
“(People) always walk by whenever we’re working in the building, and they’re like, ‘I can’t wait,’” Alvarado said.
While the opening date isn’t set yet, the goal is for the store to open the first week of July, depending on when the building is ready. Alvarado, who is opening the store with her husband, said the store is planning a grand opening celebration with outdoor activities, including the possibility for some bounce houses for kids.
“We’re just very excited to start this,” Alvarado said.
