The Great Plains Nature Center is closing its indoor exhibits for approximately two years for renovations, and a final day event is planned for June 18.

The renovations are to make foundation repairs and “to reimagine exhibits and learning spaces inside the building,” Mayor Lily Wu said. Chisholm Creek Park will remain open during the renovations, and some outdoor events will continue.

According to the Nature Center, the renovations will take a year to complete, but the center will remain closed for an additional period of time to reinstall exhibits.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, there will be a “See Ya Later” event at the nature center.

“Guests will be able to enjoy animal ambassador encounters, scavenger hunts, a naturalist program at 10 a.m., an aquatic bug search at the pond, and the final day of the curiosities sale in the Owl’s Nest Gift Shop,” a press release from the Nature Center says.

Educational programming will be paused starting in July. The programming will start back up prior to the renovations being completed, and the website will update when it opens back up, the Nature Center said.
