Woman, 69, killed in Newton traffic accident

A 69-year-old woman is dead following an early morning traffic accident in Newton.

The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. Monday a quarter-mile north of 12th Street in Newton.

The Harvey County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the woman, pending notification of her family.

The woman’s vehicle was traveling south on Meridian when, for unknown reasons, it traveled into the east ditch and struck a bridge guardrail, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office.

No other vehicles were involved.

Law enforcement agencies working the scene of the accident in addition to the sheriff’s office included the Newton Fire/EMS, Newton Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
