Closure of ramp onto K-96 will cause detours. Here’s when, where
A ramp closure as part of the east Kellogg expansion project will cause detours near Andover this week.
The on-ramp from 127th Street to eastbound K-96 will close starting Wednesday.
Drivers will instead have to detour north on 127th Street to the 13th Street interchange to get to eastbound K-96.
Traffic exiting I-35 at exit 53A to get to eastbound K-96 will also be affected during the closure. Traffic will continue instead to westbound K-96 to the 13th Street interchange and continue on to eastbound K-96.
The Kansas Department of Transportation did not give a timeline for the project to end, and instead said in a release that the detours would last for an “extended period.”
“Motorists should allow extra travel time and use caution while traveling through the area,” KDOT said in the release.
The closure is part of the $288 million east Kellogg expansion project. The project will reconstruct approximately two miles of Kellogg from K-96 to Andover in Sedgwick and Butler counties. The project will expand that portion of east Kellogg to six lanes, make improvements to K-96, replace 26 bridges, add 32 retaining walls and build two-lane frontage roads, KDOT’s website says.
