Part of Maize road will close this week. Here’s where, when

A portion of Maize Road will be closed later this week as part of a bridge reconstruction project.

Maize Road at the K-96 bridges will be fully closed starting Friday, April 24 through Sunday, April 26 so crews can remove the middle parts of the bridges. Traffic will not be able to pass under the bridges during that time.

“Motorists should allow extra travel time and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone,” a news release from the Kansas Department of Transportation says.

The construction is a part of a $3.9 million bridge redeck project. Demolition will begin on the outer parts of the bridge on April 23, in which flaggers will direct traffic when necessary. The project is expected to be completed in January 2027, KDOT says.
