Police identify 22-year-old who died in motorcycle crash in east Wichita

Wichita police are continuing to investigate a fatal crash between a motorcycle and a car that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old Wichitan on Tuesday afternoon.

Motorcyclist Blaise Stewart died in the accident that happened just before 3:30 p.m. April 7 at the intersection of Lincoln and Oliver in east Wichita, according to a press release from the Wichita Police Department. The 61-year-old driver of a green Kia Soul, which was flipped on its side from the impact of the crash, was hospitalized.

Stewart had been an employee of I Heart Cookies since 2022, the mobile cookie company said in a Facebook post. He was a regular in the “cookie window,” the post read, and I Heart Cookies said he was often praised by customers for his politeness.

“Blaise was like a brother to many of our crew and like family to us as well,” the post read. “He will be missed.”

A preliminary investigation into the crash suggests the Kia Soul was traveling southbound on Oliver and was turning east onto Lincoln when it collided with the northbound motorcycle. Investigators think speed may have been a factor in the crash, the press release said.

Officers are seeking additional information about the crash; tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111, or tipsters can contact investigators with the Wichita Police Department at 316-268-4407.
