The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 50-year-old Wichita man was struck and killed by a train.

Around 9:08 p.m. Wednesday night, BNSF Railway notified county law enforcement that a locomotive had struck a pedestrian who was crossing the tracks, according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications 911 scanner traffic. Information from scanner traffic is preliminary and subject to change.

In the 3300 block of South K-15 Highway near Turnpike Drive, first responders found 50-year-old Virakona Bouaravanh dead at the scene.

Foul play is not suspected, the Sheriff’s Office wrote in a press release Thursday afternoon. The circumstances surrounding Bouaravanh’s death and why he was on the railroad tracks remain under investigation.
