74-year-old Newton woman, two pet dogs die in Sunday morning house fire
A 74-year-old Newton woman and two dogs have died after a house fire Sunday morning, officials with the city said.
Newton Fire and emergency medical service crews responded to a home in the 500 block of West Fourth Street around 11:30 a.m.
At the scene, a city press release detailed, they found a home engulfed in fire and smoke and a downed active power line.
Crews found 74-year-old Susan Taylor dead inside the home. Two dogs also died as a result of the fire.
City officials said the fire caused heavy damage to the home, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
“We offer our deepest condolences to Ms. Taylor’s family and loved ones,” a city of Newton spokesperson wrote in a press release.
